The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has reiterated the unwavering commitment of the force in ending insecurity in the country, especially in Niger State with peculiar security challenges bedeviling the state.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Department of Training and Development (DTD) and coordinating DIG, North-Central geo-political zone, DIG Isyaku Mohammed gave the assurance during his 2 days official visit to Niger State command in Minna.
DIG Isyaku Mohammed stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the IGP, to embark on the recruitment of 50,000 police officers with over 1,300 per state to complement the existing personnel which he said is good to start with.
He further noted that Niger State command has given operational order and areas of interventions for prompt intervention, saying that his visit was to have a firsthand information, effect coordinated operations with other states that is bordering Niger State to overcome its security threats.
He reassured the students, parents and school authorities of their safety as the Police is on top of the situation, adding that the school protection units led by a superintendent of police will be given the necessary support and have also aligned a protocol for school owners to follow so as to mitigate attacks on schools across the country.
In his speech, the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Adamu Elleman applauded DIG Isyaku Mohammed for the on-the-spot assessment visit to the state.
According to him, Niger State shares boundaries with Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kwara, and Kogi States, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. While these boundaries facilitate legitimate movement and commerce, they also create access routes that are often exploited by criminal elements operating across state lines.
CP Adamu Elleman maintained that the size of the state’s extensive forest belts, difficult terrain, and scattered rural settlements present unique policing challenges that require sustained operational presence, effective mobility, and intelligence-driven security operations.
