Nigerian singer Davido has finally spoken following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards held on Sunday, February 1, in Los Angeles, California.
Davido lost the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards Ceremony. His song featuring Omah Lay, ‘With You’ was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category, but he did not take home the prize.
However, the Nigerian music superstar has maintained a positive outlook despite losing at the Grammys. After the awards night, the singer shared photos from the event on his Instagram page, with the caption, “Oluwa Dey My Side”.
The award-winning singer also took to his 𝕏 handle on Monday to express gratitude and faith despite the setback, sharing pictures from the award ceremony.
“Oluwa Dey my side,” Davido wrote in pidgin English, a phrase which translates to “God is on my side”.
In his own reaction, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke nudges Davido to move on. Governor Adeleke, in his usual way of offering support to the music legend, has sent words of encouragement to Davido after losing out at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Governor who has consistently shown support for his nephew’s musical journey, offered words of encouragement.
“Proud of you always @davido”, the Osun State Governor wrote.
The governor’s message drew an affectionate response from the singer, who replied, “Love u Excellency!!! We move ACCORDINGLY SIR”.
Davido’s fans across the globe have also expressed pride in him and congratulated him.

South African star Tyla had clinched the prize for Best African Music Performance category with her hit song ‘Push 2 Start’, surpassing strong competition from Nigerian super stars including Davido.
The category featured several Nigerian artistes, including Burna Boy ‘Love’, and the joint entry from Ayra Starr and Wizkid ‘Gimme Dat’. Also nominated was ‘Hope & Love’ by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
Despite the heavy Nigerian presence, none of the country’s nominees emerged victorious.
The Best African Music Performance category was created to give African sounds wider global attention, and this year’s shortlist once again reflected Nigeria’s strong impact in the music space, with three Nigerian acts making the final list.
Tyla’s latest win makes her a two-time recipient of the Best African Music Performance award. She first claimed the honour in 2024 with ‘Water’, becoming the first artiste to win the category. Tyla, 24, is a South African singer and songwriter known for blending amapiano, pop and R&B sounds.
