The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South has elected a new Zonal Executive Committee following a consensus-driven congress held in Asaba, Delta State, reinforcing unity and cohesion within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress attracted key party leaders, including the Senate President, governors, lawmakers, and delegates from across the region, highlighting the growing political strength of the APC in the South-South.

Proceedings began with the dissolution of the outgoing Zonal Executive Committee, moved by Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and seconded by his Bayelsa counterpart, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere. Delegates unanimously adopted the motion.

A second motion adopting consensus as the mode of electing new officers was moved by Senator Essien Williams and seconded by Senator Aniekan Bassey, also received unanimous approval.

At the end of the exercise, Chief Victor Giadom emerged as National Vice Chairman (South-South), alongside other executives including Dr. Ita Udosen (Zonal Secretary), Barr. In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and commended the region for its growing unity. He noted the transformation of the South-South into a strong APC bloc and challenged members to position the zone as the highest vote-delivering region in the 2027 elections.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, described the congress as a reflection of the party’s strength and readiness for future political engagements, urging members to deepen grassroots mobilisation and strengthen party structures.

Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum and Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, highlighted the importance of unity, noting that the adoption of consensus would reduce internal conflicts and promote collective ownership within the party.

Other governors, including Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), echoed the need for alignment with the Federal Government and sustained political cooperation across the region.
