The Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council in Delta State, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili, has disbursed ₦100 million to 1,000 small-scale entrepreneurs across the local government area as part of his annual empowerment programme.
The empowerment initiative, held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Asaba the state capital, aligns with the MORE Agenda of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which focuses on Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.
The cash empowerment, executed under the EKO Empowerment Programme has been described by many as a major boost to grassroots economic development and poverty alleviation in the local government area.
Beneficiaries received between ₦50,000 and ₦100,000 each to support small-scale businesses, improve livelihoods, and promote entrepreneurship, especially during the current economic climate.
The beneficiaries who were drawn from all wards of the council, were selected strictly on merit without political considerations, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to inclusive and people-centred governance. For many petty traders and artisans, the intervention made December truly memorable.
Governor Oborevwori who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, commended Hon. Ezenyili for sustaining the empowerment programme, describing it as a practical demonstration of grassroots development and inclusive governance.
According to the Governor, empowerment initiatives remain critical to achieving sustainable development, economic resilience, poverty alleviation, and human capital development.
“As we approach the end of the year, there is no better way to celebrate the spirit of the season than by lifting our people up and providing them with the tools they need to build a sustainable future”, the Governor said.
“Today’s exercise is a practical extension of our administration’s MORE Agenda. Empowerment is not just about the items or capital distributed today; it is about economic resilience, poverty alleviation, and human capital development.”

He urged beneficiaries to manage the funds wisely, stressing that discipline and proper management are key to turning small opportunities into lasting success.
“In a challenging economic climate, the difference between success and failure is often the discipline to manage small beginnings”, he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, skills development, and the promotion of small-scale enterprises in Oshimili South.
He explained that the programme was deliberately designed to assist traders and artisans who need ₦50,000 to acquire equipment or ₦100,000 to restock their shops, particularly during the festive period.
Ezenyili said, “Our focus remains the upliftment of our people through skills enhancement and support for small businesses. This empowerment programme is meant to give our people a financial boost and help them grow sustainable sources of income.”
The event attracted community leaders, political stakeholders, and residents who praised the council chairman for prioritizing people-oriented governance.
